i found out tonight that the French have a martial art called ‘savate’. the french! doing physical things! voluntarily! amazing. it orginated with French sailors in the 1800s then took off in the cities. my favourite thing about savate is one of the weapons is a cane. as in a cane that ye olde gentleman  used to carry. those french, even their violence is sartorially minded.
